Legends and Lore
George Washington Wall
Tom Wall portrayed by Wade Beard George Washington Wall was born in 1827 in Missouri. Like his pal John Leakey, he and his family came west; however, he didn’t settle in Patterson Settlement but went a bit further west to the town of Encina. There he established a freight business, but he left there with John Leakey to settle the Frio Canyon. Both Wall and Leakey did a lot to settle the early settlement of Floral, later the town of Leakey. George Washington Wall was known to all as Tom because supposedly he hated his given name. His flourishing freight business took him to Uvalde and Ft. Inge and many other settlements. It was in Encina, later the town of Uvalde, that his life changed forever. He shot and killed Reading Black, founder of Uvalde, who was once his friend. However, the war, money, and a woman were actually behind the rift, and Tom stayed on the run the rest of his life.
Tom Wall was re-enacted by Wade Beard of Louisiana! What a fun guy and someone who really enjoyed playing the part. Finding a hat for Wade was a bit of a problem, but we found one! We hope that he returns for another adventure with the museum.
